Well, the good news is that the Newton lives. I had shelved the 2100 for a
while as I tried to figure out what the heck to do with it.
Then along came the new PowerBook and I thought "hey - they both have an Apple logo on them, they must speak to each other!"
They didn't. But thanks to finding a misplaced Belkin driver disk and the
serial-to-usb cable, the connection worked. Add to the mix an old copy of
Newton Backup and a copy of X-Port, and voila - connectivity.
I backed up the Newton to a computer for the first time since I got it over
a year ago.
I am intrigued by the speed. I was on a WinXP box before and had to run 3
instances of Slowdown, and even then, the only connection I got was with
X-Port. NBK refused to play. Now, it works just fine (albeit with that
mildly disconcerting "Classic Environment" starting up each time.)
Next project, a hopefully-soon-to-arrive Orinoco Silver WiFi card...
